Meditación en Milagro
after the sculpture by Victor Hugo Castañeda
Tecate, Mexico
Forever sealed in bronze
this woman waits —
sits cross-legged,
palms placed on muscled
calves to cover pelvis,
closed eyes, chin tucked,
a hint of hope.
I circle her. Wait
for words this wet morning.
Bare-limbed branches
hang heavy. Mt. Kuchumaa
shrouded in wispy clouds,
a widow in mourning.
I stop. Breathe
the scent of rosemary
on my fingertips, feel
heat flower my cheeks,
listen to rock wrens
rise in song, stretch
high on my toes
and fly.
